Grand Master hails 'glorious' Twelfth of July
Wednesday, July 12, 2017

The Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Edward Stevenson, has hailed today’s Twelfth of July celebrations as the “biggest in a generation”.

The senior Orangeman said: “The 327th anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne will be forever remembered for the unprecedented numbers of people celebrating the largest annual festival in Northern Ireland.

“The wonderful weather exceeded our expectations; as did the tens of thousands of our members, band personnel and supporters, taking part or lining the routes of 18 venues across the Province. Such a phenomenal spectacle bears testament to the continuing relevance and wide appeal of Orangeism.

“From Belfast to Banbridge, Cookstown to Coleraine, counties Armagh to Antrim, and further afield, the family-friendly and carnival atmosphere of our cultural heritage was equally apparent.

“The successful day once again highlights the organisational ability of the Institution. I would commend all those involved from local lodges to senior officers, who ensured the biggest day in the parading calendar lived up to its glorious billing.

“I would also pay tribute to all those members of the public who came out in huge numbers to celebrate with us, and in so doing, showed their unstinting support for the Orange Institution and its traditions.”
